    • Hi, Ana! Nice to have a polyglot like you here. By the way, is Catalan closer to French or Spanish?

      • Hello! That's a very interesting question. As a Spaniard, I think Catalan is more similar to Spanish, since I am used to hearing both languages and I see more similarities with my language than with French.

However, it is interesting to think about this question. It could be said that in some aspects Catalan is more similar to French, obviously because of the evolution of the Romance languages and the powerful influence of French, such as some verb roots (Mengar / Manger - in Spanish Comer). On the contrary, it has nothing to do with the pronunciation of French, it is even complicated for a Frenchman and a Catalan to understand each other!

I hope that my little reflection has been useful :)

        • Thank you for your answer! One of my Spanish teachers at the university was Catalan, and once she said she could understand French even though she did not know it. Then I guess both Catalan and Spanish help her.
