After working over 15 years in the restaurant industry in New York City, I decided to move to Spain about six years ago and switch gears altogether. As soon as I landed here in 2013, I began to work as an online translator for Kalina, a young publishing company in El Salvador. The rest, as they say, is history. I fell in love with this new career and, luckily, work never stopped rolling in so I had the opportunity to polish my skills and gain experience in various areas of translation.
To offset my income, I obtained a teaching certificate from Oxbridge Language School in Barcelona to teach English as a second language. My main focus has been working as a translator and recently as a transcriber but I’ve enjoyed the experience of being a teacher. It has gifted me the satisfaction of being able to see a student’s progress and achievement as well as their joy when they realize they can communicate in a different language.
All in all, working with language has been extremely gratifying. The gift that keeps on giving.
