Content:

Students build their own curriculum with graduate-level courses in any humanities department (including Germanic Studies) and complete a thesis with their chosen University of Chicago faculty adviser. The Two-Year Language Option allows MAPH students to further master their chosen language.

Duration: 1 or 2 years

Requirements:

In addition, applicants are required to submit Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores which are not more than five years old. It is advisable to take the GRE no later than October so that scores will arrive on time. Students whose first language is not English must submit scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS). The Office of International Affairs has more information about these tests and the University's English language requirements.
