The Graduate Program in Translation began to offer its courses, as an experimental program, in 1970. The Academic Senate of the Campus approved the creation report in 1972. In 1974, upon receiving the certification of the University Board, the PGT was officially incorporated into the programs that offer a master's degree in the Faculty of Humanities.

Requirements:
The requirements for admission to the Graduate Programs of the University of Puerto Rico College of Humanities are:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
- A minimum 3.00 grade point average (on a 4.00 point scale system) both cumulative and for major field of study. As an exception, the Program can admit students with a GPA lower than 3.00.
- Knowledge of Spanish and English.
