A Master of Translation will equip you with the highly-developed analytical and communication skills in English and a language of focus that you need to succeed in professional translation. It is designed to provide students with a focused qualification in the practice of translation, along with an understanding of the history of translation and an appreciation of a number of critical issues in the field.

The program focuses on training you to become a qualified literary translator, but also provides an understanding of the history of translation and an appreciation of critical issues in the field.

Duration: 1 or 2 years

Requirements: 

International Applicants

International applicants apply directly to the Australian National University through the ANU Application Manager

You are an international applicant if you are:

  • Not an Australian or New Zealand Citizen
  • Not holding an Australian permanent resident or humanitarian visa
  • Not undertaking an Australian Year 12 inside or outside of Australia
  • Not undertaking an International Baccalaureate Diploma OR
  • Not undertaking a New Zealand National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA)

You are a domestic applicant if you are:

  • An Australian Citizen
  • A New Zealand Citizen
  • An Australian permanent resident
  • An Australian humanitarian visa holder
